Stavanger Norway

Stavanger is a fascinating city nestled on the western coast of Norway surrounded by islands and fjords. Thus, the attraction, not only for us, but a massive number of tourists via huge cruise ships. Stavanger can host even the largest cruise ships (upwards of 5000 people) and some days more than one, fills the small city center with hordes of people. These cruise ships resemble a small city moving from one port to the next. I suppose this is good for the local economy; restaurants and shops, for us, it can be overwhelming as our apartment is ½ block from the “colorful street”. In Norwegian, called Fargegaten, a must see for everyone. (I will include some pictures of this street in a future post.)

We wander the streets, visiting historical sites, taking pictures of local street art and public sculptures.

Any idea what this is? Keep reading……

As promised, pictures of our current delightful apartment, which includes a washer, dryer. We pack light and it is useful to be able to wash our clothes “at home”. We have already made ourselves comfy, it is a bit messy.

Our hosts recommended checking out Pedersgata street food. This is where locals go for mostly take away foods. The street is lined, both sides, with small restaurants, some with indoor tables, most only for takeout. The selection of foods covers all corners of the world.  We chose Pakistani food one night and pizza another. Many of the restaurants are owned and operated by those from that country, so the food is very authentic. Two guys from Rome own the pizza restaurant and it was one of the best pizza’s we have every eaten.

Answer for the new gadget question. There is no way to make coffee in our apartment. So, we went to a local shop specializing in travel and camping equipment and purchased a collapsible, single cup, drip cone with reusable filter. Works fantastic. For our morning coffee, we bought little espresso cups to add to our collection, designed and made here in Norway.

Rain is in the forecast. Will it slow us down?
