Day Tripping

The plan was to park at Waddell Creek up highway 1 north of Santa Cruz then bike and hike to Berry Creek Falls in Big Basin. This time of year, after all the rain, the falls should be beautiful.

We biked about a ¼ mile in and found the trail closed. Due to fire damage in the Santa Cruz mountains last year this entire area is closed.

Not to be discouraged, we returned to the camper to leave the bikes and walk the beach.

High tide preventing us from walking north. We soon discovered the wide river mouth would prevent us from walking very far south. Not much exercise for the day.

So, we prepared a lovely breakfast,

and then hung out in CasaGiro playing an Italian card game called Scopa.

Perfect Day!

  1. How disappointing! I remember great treks up to the falls in the past. And the newts everywhere! We’ve been through Swanton Loop since the fires, but not Waddell/Rancho del Oso yet. Glad you still had fun! How was Pinnacles?
