Fort Stevens and Astoria Oregon

Interesting signage and building art as we drive through Oregon.

We stopped at an impressive little farmers market in the middle of nowhere. Great produce, a local winery and cheese producer. The best part, everyone was masked. We have experienced mixed levels of comfort as we navigate the world after sheltering in place for over a year. For our own safety and more importantly for the safety of others and the yet to be vaccinated children, we respectively wear masks when in public situations. Although Oregon has a statewide mask mandate, we have encountered a couple of uncomfortable situations. One salesclerk in a cheese shop refused to wear a mask even after we asked. Ever other store owner in the town wore masks as did all the customers. Disappointed, we chose to leave the shop.

At the very tip of Oregon on the mouth of the Columbia River, Astoria is a fun city to walk. Lots of historical buildings, a pathway along the massive riverbank and good food.

We stayed at Fort Stevens. It was a military fortress during WW2. It is the only point of mainland attack in the US by a Japanese submarine. We had hope to stay here for a couple of days. Great bike paths and interesting historical sites. But, rain is coming. We will move to an RV park with good internet. If we are to be stuck in the rain for a couple of days, we will work.

Moving on into Washington

Thank you all for your comments and well wishes. We enjoy sharing our adventures with all of you.
