We decided this trip not to push ourselves with long days of travel. Since we have lots of time, we can make shorter travel days and explore different cities in countries we have not visited before. We knew we wanted to go to Stavanger, where the fjord boats depart to explore the many inlets and waterways along the coast of Norway. The train ride from Olso to Stavanger is eight hours, add wait time at the station, travel time to the accommodation at the other end, any frustrations of getting lost, then figuring out how to get into the new accommodation, etc, etc, and this can make for a long day. We broke it up and are spending a few days in Kristiansand, a quaint historical port town on the southern coast. First thought, find good coffee.

There is a section of the city where all the houses are painted white. The only color is the occasional bright entry door,

and this bench.

We finally had our yummy seafood dinner.

A beautiful sunny day, rain coming in the forecast, we walk to a nearby park, supposedly 30 minutes by foot. We chose to walk the wooded trails instead of the city streets. Of course the signage is all in Norwegian, we got lost and it took us nearly two hours. The little cafe sold Norwegian ciders. We had our sandwich with us, and ordered something to drink. In the communication gap we ended up with two large bottles of cider.

Took the city streets back to the apartment. It was a great day of exploration and discovery.

This last picture is Gary trying to figure out what to do with the handful of strange coins.
