Camping with the family and Four Wheel Camper Rally

We are off for the week in CasaGiro. The main event is this weekend, a Four Wheel Camper Rally where owners shows off the upgrades and additions to their rigs along with sharing, perhaps embellished, adventure stories. We enjoy finding ideas for storage, new places to visit, and fun enhancements to make camper traveling more comfortable.

But first, Union Valley Reservoir and a couple of days with the family.

Ginger and her family join us. Gary gave some fishing lessons, Ember and I discovered spring flowers, observed lizards and various insects. She is such a little nature girl. The kids enjoyed paddle boarding on the lake.

Even though it is June, there are still a variety of spring flowers.

We are camping in the El Dorado National Forest on a beautiful reservoir, part of the Sacramento Municipal Water District which pumps water in and out of several nearby lakes creating hydro power to the Sacramento valley.

During the week the camping is first come first serve. We were able to get a site near the water’s edge.

The sunsets over the water are amazing.

Four Wheel Rally

To get to our Rally destination we drove highway 50 through south Lake Tahoe for the first time since the devastating fires. Seeing the damage up close was shocking, miles of burnt forest, houses saved with charred trees only a few feet away, other houses completely vanished except for the stone chimney.

North of Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra Valley, out in the middle of nowhere, gathers 100 plus Four Wheel Camper rigs. Cows, green fields, coyotes howling in the night, far from city life. We were happy to find the valley still green.

It is inspiring to hear the travel stories, one couple crossed the country in their camper. We are already talking about where we might want to go on our next long trip.

Will we head home now or continue our journey?
