Day Tripping

Alviso Marina County Park

This is the first post in our new category, Day Tripping. We are ever searching for new and fun ways to spend our time. We have this beautiful camper (aka CasaGiro) and have decided to use it for day trips. We plan to visit new locations within a day’s drive. We pop up the camper, have a lovely breakfast and take off on bikes or hiking for a few hours of discovery.

Our first adventure was biking at Alviso Marina County Park, a part of the Don Edward wetlands and refuge along the San Francisco Bay. A flat compacted path along the inlets of the south end of the bay made for easy biking. From this location there are about 12 miles of paths.

This park is a combination of scenic colorful landscaping and birds mixed with areas of muddy, barren, smelly, marshland. Originally used for salt mining, the waterways are now in the restoration process, attracting a variety of wildlife. A bird watchers haven.

There once was a bustling little town here called Drawbridge, that was popular for fishing and just getting away. The train tracks run right through this marsh area and were, in fact, the Main St. for the town of Drawbridge. At the peak of popularity, the train would stop, letting off tourists up to 10 times a day. There’s not much left of Drawbridge now as you can see.

A great day of adventure and good exercise
