Things we just don’t see!

This is kind of an unusual picture to start with, so let me explain. I thought that I would use up this blog to tie up loose ends with all the pictures we have taken so far. In particular to look at some of those items that we just don’t really see back home. And also, I’ll show you another place we visited near Palermo. Anyway, this truck is blocking the lane as the driver unloaded another carcass, just like that one, just lifting it over his shoulder for delivery. Everyone in cars behind him just wait, they don’t honk horns or get upset, because he needs to make his deliveries, so this is just the way it is.

Lets go to a little bit more of the fashion statements here in Italy. What about a little lace at the bottom of your jeans for the ladies.
Oh yeah, and don’t forget the high heeled boots!
Or how about some better decor for your coffee machine,
Italians are very serious about their coffee even in the style of their coffee machines.

Sometimes they do also copy from other countries,
This is an obvious rip off of Starbucks! I wonder how that works internationally. Can they be sued?
And this picture is just hard to comprehend,

Nancy caught this one just right. That’s Jehovah’s Witness in the background, as a Catholic nun walks by. We see the JW almost everywhere we travel, but I don’t think we have ever seen anyone talking to them. Why is that?
Ok for something different while you are driving, let’s take a look at refueling your car off of the freeway (autostrada),
This looks kind of like a normal entry to a typical gas station. A place to get gas and a mini store, right?
Except inside you can get an espresso, in a real cup, and a snack, or you can get a fresh made panino (sandwich), which they will heat up on a panino grill (not a microwave),
or if you are really hungry they will cook you a steak, a sausage, or chicken with pasta and pesto!
All in a gas station! All fresh made! All in real cups, glasses, plates, and silverware! Fast food takes on a whole new meaning in Italy.

Oh yeah, if you want to take it to go, you may have to wait while they wrap it up for you. This can be normal procedure depending on where you go. I think they call this “service”. Kind of lost in our society.
Ok, lets move on to other small items. Some of the other things you might see walking the streets of Palermo.
Fish market, and vegetable stand on a small truck (I love these small trucks they are always packed full with items for sale),
Marzipan fruits & veges, arancini (stuffed aborio rice balls),and pastries,
And this one we had not seen before. You can get a cannolo siciliano stuffed anyway you like at “Cannolissimo”.
If there is anything negative to say about Palermo, it is the same thing about all big cities. Too loud, and a bit dirty. So Nancy and I took a day away from Palermo and drove to Mondello. A nice little beach front town.
There the water is warm and clear, and it is very quiet in comparison. Of course this is in October, and by the looks of things this beach front town is probably packed in the summer.
Here, I am bartering with an Italian man selling beach blankets,
And here, Nancy is using the blanket on the beach.
If you are ever in Palermo, do visit Mondello, it is a wonderful little town for a swim and a respite from all the noise and crowds of Palermo.
We’ll leave you with some of the extra pictures we have of buildings and etc. from this area,
Thanks for following our blog, next we’ll see you in Siracusa, Sicily,
