Now, normally I would start a post with a picture of a sign or something that states where we are. However, this picture proceeds that idea in this post because we could not find a an espresso in London terminal 3 that was in a real ceramic cup. And we are pretty strict about not using paper or plastic we we can avoid it.

This is the picture that greets you once you clear security at Palermo airport.
The Italians know how to do coffee!
Ok, now the sign for Palermo,

We have not ever been to Sicily before, so this is a trip we looked forward to. We picked up our rental car and headed to the city.

The closer we got the more apparent it was to us that, yep, we’re back in Italy, dryers are pretty rare in the common household in Italy.
Now this is not a very exciting picture. It is just two taxi drivers.

As we could not find any parking, we decided to park in the taxi zone to figure out what to do next. Each time a taxi would park to wait for more business, the driver would get out of his taxi and greet each taxi driver there with a kiss on each cheek. Unfortunately, we have no picture of this but we found this as so contrary to our own greeting customs that it was worth mentioning. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were not a stigma attached to that sort of greeting in our society?
So after finally finding parking, and our air bnb, we headed out for a walk to get groceries and anything else we needed.

First take a look at this store. It is called Tabaccheria. And if you don’t smoke you would probably never go in here. However, if you need a bus ticket, or a parking permit, or to recharge your sim card on your phone you will need to go in here. So we did, and got our one day parking permit for 5 euro in downtown Palermo.
Kind of expensive but having your car towed away is a bit more of a hassle.

Also on our way were other diversions such as some of the new fashions. Those shoes tie up the side?

And when can we expect to see those furs and dresses in Santa Cruz?
I don’t know……..Italians have a different sense of style than we do.
After shopping, we decided we needed something easy, and we had quite the jet lag. So there were options on our way home.
Fresh fish………………………………………..Or wood fired pizza?

Then we remembered there were these great small places called “gastronomia” where you can buy ready to eat home cooked food.

Well now, lets see, rolled stuffed eggplant, roasted peppers and zucchini, and fried zucchini flowers. Pretty good for take out!
Join us next as we head off to the International Gelato Festival and more……
