Wandering the West – Going Home

Onward to Washington.

Day 20 Idaho Backroads 6-18 (72)

We spent a day in Pasco, Washington where Gary again connected with a friend from earlier in his life. Pasco wasn’t much to see.

The Columbia river,

To be fair, we really did not stay in Pasco long. We arrived late one evening and were gone before noon the next day. This area probably has a lot more to offer once explored. It is the confluence of the Snake and Columbia rivers. So perhaps another time.

For now on to Oregon,

Day 24 to End Oregon California Redding 7-18 (34)

We heard a lot of good things about Bend, Oregon. So that is where we headed,

Bend is truly a city to visit. Very bike friendly, lots of really good food, and coffee, and as it happens there is a good contingent of Brazilians to watch world cup soccer,

Day 22 Bend OR 7-18 (9)

Here we are at a local pub watching the France – Brazil world cup match.

Brazil lost, but the crowd was really fun to hang with!

We spent two full days in Bend and loved all of it! If you travel with bikes this is a really great place to go!

When we finally left we headed to Crater Lake,

Day 23 Crater Lake 7-18 (27)

This place is so stunning, the water is super clear. However, there is not a lot of camping near, and the drive in is a bit long. So on our way up we stopped along the side of the road for lunch,

It’s amazing what can be done in this small popup camper in a few minutes.

We really do love our camper!

Nancy got some pictures of our views for lunch,

Plus some of the local wildflowers,

We spent this night in Klamath Falls, and really did not get to explore the area as now we are itching to get home,

Day 24 to End Oregon California Redding 7-18 (33)

California, California! We are very happy to be close to home. We didn’t want to drive all the way home for it was just too many hours for our comfort so we decided halfway was Redding. We know it is hot there, but we were really amazed at how much Redding had to offer,

We spent the night at Sheraton next to the Sundial bridge. It was hot, but there was river walks, Turtle Bay, and a beautiful sunset.

Then in the morning our trip was near finished. We arrived home midday to our family, and the grand kids were especially excited to see us as we were to see all of them.

We hope you have enjoyed our little journey in the western states. We invite you to follow us on our next journey, where ever we may go!

**As this is being posted after our trip was finished, we realize the great hardships that the people of Redding are going through with the fires in that area. It brings great sadness to both of us as having just been through that beautiful area. We hope and pray for all those affected, including the firefighters, by these terrible fires, and ask from all of you, if you can help, please do. Thanks, Gary & Nancy
