Wandering the Western States – Wyoming

The Grand Tetons

Day 7 Jackson Wyoming 6-18 (8)

Here we are in the Grand Tetons. As you saw in our last post, we got busted for boon- docking in Jackson city limits. Apparently the spot we choose to park was in front of a grumpy old man’s property, and he called us in. The police were actually really nice and directed us to try a campground out of town. So we packed up and headed out of Jackson, wandering a bit and finally settled in a paid campground for the night.

The next morning we headed out and were soon greeted with a glimpse of where we were going,

On the way we were also always looking for post offices to send our postcards to the family,day-7-grand-tetons-6-18-10.jpgSome of them are pretty small. And cute. That’s the fun of it! Moose, Wyoming probably has more moose than people. It is unincorporated so can’t really get a count on the population. When we went through we didn’t see a soul.

So we entered Grand Tetons National Park and learned that Gary was eligible for lifetime Senior Pass that cost $80, but would get us into all national parks for free and also 1/2 off camping at federal campgrounds. This will pay for itself on this trip as the fee for this park alone is $30. There are some advantages in getting old.

And speaking of the Grand Tetons, lets take a look at some of the beauty that exists there,

As you can see we didn’t miss this years spring flowers. In fact we learned that this was just the beginning of spring flowers in some of these areas, so we have more to look forward to.

We stopped and did a little hike, and Gary got in some fishing,

This nite it started to rain, we spent hours trying to use internet at Jackson Lake Lodge in the park. Nancy had work to do and we got very frustrated in obtaining clean internet. As it was late, we begged security to let us stay the nite in the lodge parking lot, (the lodge cost a minimum $320, and was full). They were kind and let us stay. No pictures from the lodge as we were totally engrossed and frustrated at acquiring internet to help a client in need.

The next morning we were off to Grassy Lake, just outside of Yellowstone, and part of the John D Rockefeller Jr Memorial Parkway.

Gary got to fish again,

Though by the looks of it, there were more fish stories than actual fish caught.

In the morning we said our goodbyes to Grassy Lake and headed to Yellowstone!
